Published on the front page of the *Washington Evening Star* on October 11, 1907, this drawing casts the President as a hunter whose quarry is never quite caught. Its title, *The President's Dream of a Successful Hunt*, uses the hunting metaphor that editorial cartoonists often applied to Theodore Roosevelt, whose hunting trips were widely reported and whose campaigns against large corporations were a constant subject of debate. The cartoon ran in the same month as the financial panic that struck New York that October, a reminder of how closely political satire followed the news of the day.
