The name recorded for this glass negative, Olga Spesizewa, comes from caption cards that the Bain News Service supplied with its material, so it remains an unverified title. Bain's agency, founded in New York by George Grantham Bain, sold news pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives were later given to the Library of Congress. With no date on record, the plate is best understood within that busy period of press photography, when glass negatives offered sharp detail and were rushed into print for daily papers.
