*The Land of the Living*, billed as "a strong drama" by Frank Harvey, is advertised across this 1895 color lithograph, with a line from the play printed beneath the scene: "I will not leave you to your fate. You have saved my life I will save yours." The poster was produced by the Springer Lithographing Company of New York under H.C. Miner, who served as its president and was also active in the theater business. Melodramas of this kind toured widely in the 1890s, and printers often sold stock designs like this one to traveling companies, who added their own local billing. Harvey, the playwright, died in 1902.
