This glass negative shows Mrs. Roosevelt and her daughter Ethel posed on the bridge of the Kaiserin Auguste Victoria, a German Hamburg America Line liner that carried transatlantic passengers in the years before the First World War. The caption also names a dog called "Bongo," so the scene appears to be a family outing aboard ship. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs, made the negative, but the caption's title data is unverified and no date is recorded. Pictures like this show how the Roosevelt family's travels were recorded for the press during Theodore Roosevelt's years out of office.
