The only name attached to this negative is Christine Miller, and the Library of Congress notes that the title comes from caption cards and data the Bain News Service recorded, so the identification has not been independently confirmed. The plate is a 5 by 7 inch or smaller glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection. George Grantham Bain founded his news photography service in New York around 1899, and it supplied pictures of people, events and street scenes to newspapers for roughly two decades. Its glass plates are valued today as a record of that period's news and everyday life.
