A 5 by 7 inch glass negative carrying the name Estelle O'Brien is the only identifying detail in its record, and that name comes from caption cards the Bain News Service attached to its plates, so it has not been independently verified. The Bain News Service, a New York agency, produced and sold news photographs from about 1899 into the early 1930s, covering politics, theater, sports and public life. Its glass plates were often separated from their captions over time, so the sitter and the occasion are best confirmed against the Bain caption files and related prints before drawing firm conclusions.
