Two of the most prominent names in early twentieth-century American finance appear together in this Bain News Service negative: Albert H. Wiggin, longtime head of the Chase National Bank, and the financier J.P. Morgan. The Bain News Service was a New York picture agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers and magazines, so pictures like this one were made to circulate as images of Wall Street figures in the news. The identification comes from the agency's caption cards and has not been independently verified, and the negative carries no firm date, so the exact occasion remains uncertain. Even so, it offers a useful view of how bankers were presented to the public in that period.
