The poster pairs a swastika with snakes under the title "Hay que dar el golpe definitivo," or "We must deliver the final blow." It was issued by the Levante regional committee of the CNT, the anarchist-leaning national labor federation, together with the FAI and the International Workingmen's Association, and dates from between 1936 and 1939. Those years were the Spanish Civil War, which began with the military uprising of July 1936. Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy backed the Nationalist side, and the swastika and serpent imagery portrays fascism as a venomous threat to be crushed, a theme common in Republican-aligned propaganda.
