Finish the job!" pairs its urgent slogan with a keystone and an arch, a classic image of a structure that holds only once its last stone is set. The poster dates to 1917, the year the United States entered the First World War, when the government relied on Liberty Loan bond drives to finance the effort. Wartime posters like this one were often displayed in public places and asked ordinary Americans to lend money to the cause as a patriotic duty. The keystone metaphor suggests that the war effort would stand only if every citizen added a share.
