This 1918 color lithograph, titled "Leset die Asuw!" ("Read the Asuw!") and signed by the artist Rudolf Eberle, is a German poster that urges readers to pick up a particular publication. Its subjects point to the newspaper and reading culture of the final year of the First World War, when soldiers and civilians alike depended on printed news while the war dragged on and morale was under strain. The poster is also a useful record of wartime graphic design, in which commercial-style lithography was used to make a simple message about a newspaper eye-catching. It came to the Library of Congress from the Rehse-Archiv für Zeitgeschichte und Publizistik, a collection of materials on modern German history and the press.
