J.S. Whitman, J.R. Standish, and Dick Walsh are the three men named in this glass negative, dated June 29, 1923, though the record notes that the names come from unverified data written by the National Photo Company. The company, a commercial studio in Washington, D.C., produced a large body of pictures of the city and its people in the early twentieth century, and this negative came to the Library of Congress as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. Visitors should note the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which the record attributes to deterioration in the original coating.
