Titled "Awaken...", this reproduction of a painting by William Robinson Leigh is catalogued with horses and U.S. history among its subjects, and the gallery's Paul Revere listing points to Revere's midnight ride of April 18, 1775, when he warned the countryside that British troops were marching toward Lexington and Concord. Leigh, an American painter and illustrator known for historical and western scenes, made the original work, and this print was copyright-registered around 1917. The record's dating and attributions are unverified, but the image shows how early twentieth-century artists kept the Revolution's best-known ride alive for a new generation.
