Karl Franz Josef, the last emperor of Austria and, through the Hungarian crown, king of Hungary, was crowned in Budapest's Matthias Church in December 1916, which gives this Budapest title its weight. His reign ended with the collapse of Austria-Hungary at the close of the First World War. The title comes from caption data supplied by the Bain News Service, a news photo agency, and has not been independently verified, so the sitter and place are best read as recorded rather than confirmed.
