Printed in Welsh rather than English, this sheet stands apart from most recruiting posters of the war. Its title announces the Deddf Gwasanaeth Milwrol, or Military Service Act, of 1916, the law that brought conscription to Britain for the first time, and its text speaks directly to Welsh-speaking men in their own language. Issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in London and printed by David Allen & Sons in Harrow, it has no illustration at all, so its words alone had to explain the new obligation.
