Advertising a production under the management of Max Faetkenheuer, this color lithograph carries the name of Verdi's opera *Aida*, which premiered in Cairo in 1871 with an Egyptian setting drawn from the Ottoman-era khedive's commission. By about 1908, touring opera and theatrical companies in the United States relied on large colorful posters like this one to draw audiences in towns along their routes. The Otis Lithograph Company, which printed the sheet in Cleveland and New York, was one of the firms that produced such work, and its bold color and dramatic staging were typical of the period.
