Here the Parthenon crowns the Acropolis, and the Thesion, the Doric temple of Hephaestus, sits at the hill's base, all seen from the southeast along the railway line. Underwood & Underwood, the New York firm whose stereo cards were sold in large numbers for parlor viewing, issued the card around 1907. The railway vantage point is worth noticing, since trains had carried travelers into Athens since the late 1860s, so the ancient hill was visible from the tracks as well as from the city streets.
