Dated February 11, 1929, this glass negative records a Pan American trademark conference, a meeting of representatives from across the Americas on how trademarks would be protected between nations. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C. commercial studio, produced a large body of work documenting government and public life in the 1920s and 1930s, and its plates remain a valuable record of the period. Look closely and you will see streaks and blemishes caused by natural deterioration of the plate's original coatings. Herbert A. French donated the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
