The Second Commercial Conference of the Pan American Union, held June 2 to 6, 1919, is the event this glass negative records, with Minister Charles Morevia named in its title. The meeting took place in the years after the First World War, when officials from the American republics sought closer trade ties, and the Pan American Union in Washington served as their shared meeting place and secretariat. The negative came from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented the city's officials, buildings and public events in the early twentieth century. Its surface shows streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of the original coating.
