Sayre, in Bradford County in north-central Pennsylvania, grew up around the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and this view of its yard shows the working core of that operation: tracks, cars, and locomotives set out in the open. The town was named for Robert H. Sayre, a railroad official, and the company's yards and shops there made it an important stop on the line. The caption card gives no date, so the exact year is unknown, but yard scenes like this are generally from the steam era, when locomotive maintenance was a major local employer.
