Cambridge Springs, a small town in Crawford County in northwestern Pennsylvania, was in 1895 known mainly as a mineral spring resort. Its waters drew summer visitors who stayed in hotels and boarding houses, and much of the town's living depended on that seasonal trade alongside local farming and the railroad that linked it to the surrounding region. Residents would have thought of their town first as a place for taking the waters. The map shows those streets and buildings laid out with the visitors in mind.

NotesAn original bird's-eye view map of Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania, drawn in 1895. Bird's-eye view maps were drawn by travelling artists who walked a town street by street, sketching every building from an imagined vantage point in the air, then sold the finished lithograph door to door by subscription. Roughly five thousand American towns were recorded this way between the 1860s and the 1920s, and for many of them the panoramic map is the most complete picture of the place that survives.
