Its title poses a question and answers it: "Is Schleswig Danish? ... Schleswig is German!" This 1919 color lithograph by Chr. Kreutzfeldt turns that claim into a picture, pairing a map with farmhouses and a church to present the disputed region as an ordinary German homeland. It was made in the months after the war, when the Treaty of Versailles had set the future of Schleswig for a plebiscite. The 1920 vote divided the territory between Germany and Denmark, and posters like this one show how fiercely the border question was argued in Germany at the time.
