The record names a strike meeting in Lawrence, but the "N.Y." prefix and the missing date leave the city and year uncertain, and the title comes from unverified Bain News Service data. The best-known Lawrence labor action came in 1912, when thousands of mostly immigrant mill workers, many of them women, walked out of the city's woolen mills in Massachusetts over pay cuts. Bain News Service supplied news photographs to newspapers during the early twentieth century, so this negative is best read as a snapshot of the labor unrest and public gatherings that drew press attention in that era.
