Suffrage meetings in New York were a common subject for the Bain News Service, whose photographers covered street rallies and indoor gatherings during the years before women gained the vote. The record gives no date for this negative, and its title comes from caption information the agency recorded on the glass or its cards, so the exact occasion remains uncertain. New York voters approved women's suffrage in a 1917 statewide referendum, and the federal Nineteenth Amendment followed in 1920. Pictures like this one show how organizers used public meetings to press their case before those victories.
