Few pictures in the Bain collection show a parade float as plainly as this one does, with its title pointing to a "Bible Lands" theme rather than a political slogan. The float belongs to a suffrage procession, one of the public marches that women's voting-rights groups staged in American cities in the 1910s to press for the vote. Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, sent photographers to events like these and sold the pictures to newspapers, so the glass negative records how the movement presented itself to the public. Its date and location are not recorded, and the title comes from unverified caption data, so the exact occasion remains uncertain.
