Few stage musicals of the 1940s changed the form as thoroughly as *Oklahoma*, and this color poster bears its title in full. Rodgers and Hammerstein's show opened on Broadway in 1943 and ran for more than 2,200 performances, with songs that advanced the story rather than pausing it. The poster was printed by Artcraft Lithographing & Printing Company, a New York firm that produced many theatrical posters in the period, and it is catalogued as number 491 in the Artcraft Poster Collection.
