Promising "a night on the sound" with a complete dramatic and musical company, this color lithograph advertises a show called *Fun on the Bristol*. The 1890s musical revue it promotes drew heavily on minstrel traditions, and productions of this kind often presented Black performers through exaggerated stereotypes. Printers of the period used bold color and caricature to draw crowds, so the poster reveals as much about how audiences were expected to see African Americans as it does about the entertainment itself. Today it is best read as a record of that prejudice as well as of the theater of its time.
