Few ancient buildings in Athens survive as completely as the Theseion, a Doric temple on a rise northwest of the Agora, here framed with the Acropolis in the distance. Built in the decades after the Persian Wars, it was long called the Temple of Theseus, a name that stuck even though it was most likely dedicated to Hephaestus. This stereograph, issued by the American Stereoscopic Company around 1907, was made for parlor viewers that fused two slightly offset photographs into one three-dimensional scene. Its caption details come from the card itself and have not been independently verified.
