This photographic print reproduces scenes from a cyclorama of Custer's Last Fight, a huge circular painting meant to be viewed from a central platform so that the battle seemed to surround the viewer. The record is dated May 27, 1889, and the caption card that informed it is unverified, so the exact scenes shown and the painting's makers should be checked against other sources. The Battle of the Little Bighorn in June 1876 was a sensational news event, and in the following decade panoramas of it drew large crowds to exhibition halls across the country, including in Boston.
