Painted panoramas of the Little Bighorn were a major draw in late nineteenth-century Boston, and this print documents the Boston Cyclorama Company's version of *Custer's Last Fight*, a circular canvas designed to surround viewers and place them in the middle of the battle. The fight took place in June 1876 in Montana Territory, when a column of the U.S. 7th Cavalry under George Armstrong Custer was overwhelmed by Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and allied warriors. Cycloramas were a popular form of mass entertainment at the time, and the May 27, 1889 date comes from an old caption card whose details are unverified.
