Unlike most pictures on this board, this one documents a painted spectacle rather than a battlefield: its record names the Boston Cyclorama Company and an 1889 date for "Scenes from Custer's Last Fight." Cycloramas were huge circular paintings, often viewed from a central platform so that the scene seemed to surround the viewer. This one depicts the June 1876 fight at the Little Bighorn, in which George Armstrong Custer and about 200 men of his regiment were killed by Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors. The catalog notes that the caption data is unverified, so the exact subject and maker of this print should be checked before relying on them.
