Eddie Cicotte appears here in a Boston American League uniform, from the years before he was traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1912. He was known for a knuckleball and for the shine ball, a pitch that involved altering the ball's surface and drew frequent complaints from opposing players. Cards like this were often packaged with tobacco or candy of the era, and this one now also records a pitcher who was later one of the eight players banned for throwing the 1919 World Series.
