Arrow collars, made by Cluett, Peabody & Co. of Troy, New York, were a leading brand of detachable starched collars for men, and this color lithograph advertises them and the shirts that went with them. Detachable collars were a standard part of a well-dressed man's wardrobe in the early twentieth century. Because the collar could be removed, cleaned, and replaced without laundering the whole shirt, it offered a practical as well as a stylish solution. The poster's date is uncertain, so it is best placed in the 1920s, when brand advertising in color print was growing quickly.
