Its slogan sets empty patriotism against training: "Loyal talk won't beat Kaiser Krupp Kultur, trained men will!" Printed in color in 1914, the year Canada entered the war as part of the British Empire, it urges men to enlist rather than simply declare their loyalty. The references to the Kaiser, the Krupp armaments firm, and "Kultur" point to Germany's military power, which recruiters presented as a foe to be matched with discipline and drill. The record also names a United States Shipping Board sponsor, a link that does not fit a 1914 Canadian appeal and is worth checking against other sources.
