Under the headline "At the front!", this poster urges every fit man in Britain to enlist, and its subjects point to cavalry and explosions, the dangers and the pull of active service. It was issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in London, a body set up in 1915 to encourage voluntary enlistment before conscription began in early 1916. The color lithograph was printed by E.S. & A. Robinson of Bristol, a firm known for commercial printing. Posters like this one were pasted on hoardings and station walls across the country, and they reflected the government's effort to fill the ranks of the new armies through persuasion.
