Three names, F.J. Hayes, E.L. Doyle and Jas. Lord, are all the record gives for this glass negative, and the title is unverified, so the men shown cannot be identified from it alone. The plate belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, the work of the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied news pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Its glass negatives, usually 5 by 7 inches or smaller, were the working format of that era, and the names on caption cards are often the only surviving clue to who stood before the lens.
