Printed as a color lithograph poster in 1907, this Princeton piece carries the word "Guard" at lower right, a label that points to a line position on the football field. The artist, Chas. W. Beck, copyrighted the design that year and signed it with a pictograph rather than a written name. Posters like this belonged to the college football enthusiasm of the 1900s, when the Princeton and Yale game on Thanksgiving Day drew large crowds and inspired a steady stream of printed tributes to the teams and their players.
