Titled simply *Clear*, this 1910 color lithograph shows football players and bears the name Hibberd V. B. Kline, with a New York imprint from Close, Graham & Scully, Inc. The firm produced many sporting prints for the American market in these years, when football had become a national pastime and college rivalries drew large crowds, especially on Thanksgiving Day. Bold color and a simple composition helped such posters catch the eye in shop windows. The image treats the game as a kind of athletic spectacle, a theme that ran through much popular sports art of the decade.
