Few railroad posters of the period tie a single stretch of river so directly to a rail line as this one does. The title points to the Hudson Highlands, the wooded hills where the river cuts through the land north of New York City, and the New York Central promoted that scenery as a reason to ride. The railroad ran its main line along the river's east bank, so passengers could watch the water and cliffs from their windows. The poster is by Leslie Ragan, an American illustrator known for travel and railroad work, and it reflects the postwar years, when railroads still competed hard for leisure travelers.
