A factory master, Petr Rodionovich Solotukhin, shows tanks to Senior Lieutenant Khazov, a Hero of the Soviet Union, in this 1942 scene by Georgii Zel'ma. The setting is the tractor works in the city then called Stalingrad, which the record gives by its older name, Tsaritsyn, and which is today called Volgograd. In 1942, as German forces advanced on the city, the plant's workers were turning out tanks instead of farm machinery, which tied the factory directly to the fighting. The print was made later, so its date reflects the wartime moment rather than the time of printing.
