Few posters from the war ask children to do a farmer's work, but this one does. It invites young people to join a sheep club and raise twenty sheep, which the caption says will equip and clothe each soldier. Wool was essential to Army uniforms, blankets, and greatcoats, and American mills struggled to meet wartime demand after the country entered the war in 1917. The lithograph was printed in Philadelphia by Breuker & Kessler, and its directions to contact a county agent or club leader point to the agricultural extension network that organized such youth programs through state agricultural colleges.
