Outfielder Harry Hooper stands at left and third baseman Larry Gardner at center in this glass negative, both members of the Boston American League club in 1912. That fall the team won the World Series over the New York Giants, and both men were part of the lineup that season. The picture comes from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs, and its negatives are now held in the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. The 1912 date comes from later research rather than the original caption, so treat it as a well-informed estimate.
