Catcher Bill Carrigan and manager Jake Stahl pose together in this 1912 glass negative, dated September 28, when the Boston Red Sox were contending for the American League pennant. Stahl, a first baseman, served as the club's player-manager that season, and Boston went on to win the 1912 World Series over the New York Giants. Carrigan, a Maine native, took over as manager in 1913 and later led the Red Sox to World Series titles in 1915 and 1916. The negative comes from the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency whose collection is now held by the Library of Congress.
