Five Boston Red Sox pitchers stand shoulder to shoulder in front of a grandstand on October 7, 1915, and the young Babe Ruth is among them, still a few seasons away from becoming a full-time slugger. That fall the Red Sox went on to beat the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, four games to one, and their pitching staff was the team's strength. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain news photo collection, which documented the stars and events of the era.
