This lithograph, titled "Anti annexation procession," ties together the 1844 presidential campaign and several reform movements of the day. Its subjects include Henry Clay, the Whig candidate, his running mate Theodore Frelinghuysen, abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison, and the debates over blue laws and the postal service. Clay's opposition to immediate annexation of Texas made that question central to the campaign, and abolitionists such as Garrison argued that annexation would extend slavery. The print was published in New York by James Baillie and signed by the artist H. Bucholzer.
