Currier & Ives printed this lithograph in New York around 1860, the year Abraham Lincoln won the presidency for the newly formed Republican Party. Banners and campaign prints of that election season were often sold to supporters of a candidate, and this one carries the party's name and its campaign message in its title. The print belongs to a large body of lithographs the firm produced for the political contests of the 1850s and 1860s, when images like this one reached voters who could not read long newspaper arguments. Its catalog entry in the Gale Research raisonné of Currier & Ives work gives a way to find related prints from the same firm.
