Two women help a line of small children climb aboard a train in this photograph, a scene of wartime travel that the record ties to the National Socialist People's Welfare (NSV), the Nazi Party's welfare organization. The NSV ran child care, aid to families, and support for evacuees and displaced people in Germany during the Second World War, and its work was used as propaganda for the regime's image of care and unity. The record dates the image only tentatively, to between 1940 and 1945, and its caption card information is unverified, so the exact circumstances of the departure remain uncertain. The "refugees" and "children" subject tags point to the movement of civilians fleeing or being moved away from bombing and other wartime disruption.
