Hall Johnson's *Run, Little Chillun* was a music-drama built around Black spirituals and church singing, and this 1936 silkscreen poster advertises a Los Angeles staging of it. Johnson, a composer and choral director, had first brought the work to Broadway in 1933, where its choral sound and its portrayal of a Southern Black congregation drew wide attention. The Federal theater Project, a New Deal program that employed theater workers during the Depression, sponsored the production, and its poster artists used bold color and flat shapes to make these productions visible to the public. The poster is a useful record of how federally funded theater reached audiences beyond New York.
