Little more than the title survives for this glass negative, which the Bain News Service labeled simply "Roosevelt," and the catalog notes that the identification was never verified. The gallery board places it among portraits of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president, so the likeliest subject is him, though a reader should keep that attribution provisional. The Bain News Service, run by George Grantham Bain in New York from the early 1900s, supplied news photographs to newspapers, and its glass plates capture the busy public life of the Roosevelt years.
