Its title pairs a patriotic subject, the American Congress, with the name of its maker, Hollister, Taylor & Co. of Springfield, Massachusetts. This color engraving dates to about 1864, when commercial stationery often carried patriotic or pictorial designs that helped merchants stand out during the Civil War. F. Bolles engraved the plate from a drawing by M. Bradley, who also held the copyright. The record places it among the Library of Congress's stationery and label prints, and its color work and layout show how wartime business sought public attention.
