The Casino at Narragansett Pier was the social center of a fashionable summer colony on the Rhode Island shore, where vacationing families gathered for concerts, dances, and tennis. During the Gilded Age, wealthy visitors from Providence, New York, and Boston came to the town, and its clubhouse reflected that leisured world. This 1909 view shows the building as a place of arrival and promenade near the water. It is a useful record of how seaside resort architecture and summer leisure were presented in the early twentieth century.
